New Venetian Fortress

The New Corfu Castle was built in order to provide additional protection to the island than the old Corfu Castle in order to protect it from any possible danger from invaders. This castle, which was previously used for defensive military purposes, has become an important cultural center that hosts cultural events throughout the year and includes an exhibition of painting, sculpture and photography. Today the fort serves as the headquarters of the Corfu Naval Station and still maintains the water stores and the weapons and ammunition depots as they were in the past.
