Omar Bin Al Khattab Mosque
The oldest mosque in the city of Bethlehem and is located opposite the amazing Church of the Nativity. This ancient mosque was built in 1860 AD on the site where Omar Ibn Al-Khattab prayed when he visited the city in the year 637 AD. This church was built to commemorate Omar Ibn Al-Khattab’s visit to the city. In 1955 AD, the mosque was completely restored and renovated under the administration of the Jordanian Civil Rule. Interestingly, Christians in the city offer olive oil to light the lanterns of the Al-Omar Mosque, and Muslims and Christians gather during the Christmas period to celebrate together, which reflects the bonding and love between the residents.
