Place du Grand Sablon

This square takes its name from the French word (Sablon) which means sand. Years ago, the area was a sandy lot on the way to Brussels. Today, the square is filled with art galleries, boutiques, cafes, and upscale restaurants. It is also the center of the antiques trade in Brussels. In fact, the historic homes surrounding the square have been converted into high-end antique stores, and a well-known antiques market takes place on the square every weekend.
