Profane Gregorian Museum
The Museo Gregoriano Provano was founded in the Lateran Apostolic Palace by order of Gregory XVI Cappellari on May 16, 1844; The results of the papal archaeological excavations of the previous decades in Rome and in the surrounding areas were exhibited there, along with many other antiquities. All of the collections formerly housed in the Lateran Palace were moved to the Vatican, where the new wing was inaugurated in June 1970.
