The Funchal Museum of Sacred Arts is located in the former Episcopal Palace of Funchal, and contains a collection of paintings, sculptures, gold and silver pieces, and vestments dating back to the period between the end of the fifteenth and nineteenth centuries. One of the most prominent features of the museum is the Flemish Art Department, which includes a collection of paintings Flemish from the 15th and 16th centuries that arrived in Madeira during the heyday of sugar production on the island.
