Description of the place
The Catholic Monastery of Santa Caterina del Sasso was founded in 1170 AD. It is located on a rocky hill high above the magnificent Lake Maggiore. It can be reached by climbing winding stairs or by boat. It is a national landmark and home to a number of frescoes dating back to the nineteenth century AD. It consists of 3 buildings: the monastery, the main building, the southern building, and the main church.
