Strahov Monastery
Strahov Monastery
After the pilgrimage to the Holy Land in the year 1138 AD, the Bishop of Olomouc (Jendish Zedek) took up the idea of establishing a monastery of regular canons in Prague. The monastery was supported by the Archbishops of Prague and Sobeslav I, and the Duke of Bohemia Vladislav II. Then the monks began to build their monastery first in wood, as the Romanesque basilica was the center of all spiritual events in Strahov. The building was gradually completed, and the stone buildings of the monastery continued to be built to replace the temporary wooden living quarters with permanent stone. In the year 1258 AD, the monastery was severely damaged by a fire, and it was later renovated. It is one of the buildings with a distinctive architectural character, and it is a suitable destination for all history lovers around the world.
