Wortherseemandl fountain
One of the city's most notable monuments is the Würthersimandl Fountain, which belongs to a figure who, according to legend, was responsible for the creation of Lake Wörthersee near Klagenfurt. Mandel was so angry with the many corrupt and sinful people in the rich town that he caused a flood. You can see that Mandel is holding a barrel under his hand with water pouring from it. According to legend, all attempts to seal the barrel were unsuccessful and the entire city was flooded. In 1962, the city of Klagenfurt built this bronze fountain in memory of Mandel and the legend. You can wander near this monument or sit near the distinctive local cafes and restaurants.
