Academic Prison

The academic prison consisted of three small rooms in which students were imprisoned in violation of the university's laws, such as not returning a book to the library. This former prison is located in the basement of the Juanina Library at the University of Coimbra. In 1834, after the liberal revolution in Portugal, it was used as a depository for books and illuminated manuscripts. of churches and monasteries, but today, it is open to visit as a historical museum.
