Castle of San Michele
Castle of San Michele
fortified castle dating back to the twelfth century. The castle is located within a military complex consisting of three towers and a trench surrounding the castle. It is a defensive castle that was built to defend the city of Cagliari. It was also fortified again to prevent French attacks in the eighteenth century around the year 1940 AD. The castle was then used as a hospital during the so-called "Plague of Sant'Effio" in 1652-1656. Now, it includes the city's Center for Art and Culture, which displays many sculptures and paintings.
