After the end of Ottoman rule in the city of Eger in 1687, mosques were destroyed and gradually replaced by Catholic churches, and the Jesuits were the first to build a monastery in the late seventeenth century, and in the year 1700, they built the Cistercian Church, also known as St. Bernard's Church, on Baroque style, with two stunning towers designed by Stephen Pethὄ. The structure of the church has been rebuilt twice; Once in 1888 and again in 1902.
