Dongnimmun Gate
Dongnimun Gate, also known as the Independence Gate, is a monument built to honor the Korean people and their struggle for national independence from foreign interference. It is located in the southeast corner of Independence Park near the History Hall of Seodaemun Prison. It was here that Chinese and foreign envoys were received and honored. by the Joseon kings upon their arrival in Korea. The gate building was designed by architect Sim Uiseok with the King's approval and modeled on the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, the capital of France.
