Great Mosque of Monastir

The Great Mosque of Monastir is a historic Tunisian mosque located near the ribat of Monastir on the outskirts of the city overlooking the sea. It is characterized by high facades built of stone and surrounded by window and door frames, in addition to arches extending along the mihrab. A prayer room and a minaret, and it does not have a courtyard inside, and the mihrab is decorated with Zirid motifs, kufic inscriptions, and floral mouldings. One of the characteristics of the Great Mosque is the absence of a dome above the mihrab, which is rare in medieval Ifriqiyan architecture.
