Monument to Joaquim Antonio de Aguiar
Joaquim António de Aguiar was a Portuguese politician and three-time Prime Minister of Portugal. A monument to him was erected in Coimbra in 1911 in honor of his memory. The statue was made by Costa Mota, depicting him holding a pen. With his right hand and a paper with his left, symbolizing the moment when the decree abolishing the religious communities in Portugal was signed, the statue is made of bronze, about 3 meters high, and is placed on a stone base about 4 feet high, and stands in the middle of Coimbra's center square.
