This magnificent and ancient palace was founded in the early fourteenth century by the Knights of St. John, and it is the most prominent historical and architectural landmark of the city of Rhodes. It was a governor's seat and administrative center in the Middle Ages. It features floors paved with mosaics of ancient Roman and Byzantine art. The rooms also contain antique furniture from the 16th and 17th centuries, exquisite polychrome marble, carvings, carpets and beautiful oriental vases. While the inner courtyard is decorated with many statues of the Greek and Roman era. Among the most important rooms in the palace are the grand reception hall, antechamber, the magnificent ballroom, and the elegant music room.
