Pyrmont Bridge
Pyrmont Bridge, which connects Sydney with the western suburbs, is one of the oldest carrier bridges and has been declared a National Engineering Landmark. This bridge was opened for the first time in March 1858, and at that time it was a wooden bridge, with a metal middle, including a pedal, which raised the bridge for the passage of ships for a certain fee. But when the government bought the bridge, it abolished the fees and turned it into a fixed steel bridge. It took 33 months to build, until it opened in 1902, coinciding with the start of motoring in Sydney.
