The Church of São Sebastião was built between 1531 and 1547 on the site of a small former granary dedicated to São Sebastião. Its exterior includes stunning Baroque and Manueline doorways. The interior is enriched by carved work in local cedar wood and other rare woods such as ebony. 17th- and 18th-century statuary, 17th-century azulejo tile panels, jacaranda wooden furniture in the sacristy, and a rich collection of 16th-century embroidered vestments.
