Tower of the Devil
The Devil's Tower is one of the remaining 14 towers out of 72 towers dating back to the medieval period in San Gimignano, and these towers were a symbol of wealth and power among the wealthy families of San Gimignano. The Devil's Tower is located at the northernmost point of Piazza della Cesterna, and is part of the Palazzo de Cortese. Its construction dates back to the twelfth century AD, and the name of the tower is linked to a legend that says that the king, upon his return to the city, noticed that the tower differed in height as a result of direct satanic interference in it.
