Citania de Briteiros
After the second millennium BC, human societies organized in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula settled in tribes that inhabited high sites called "Castros", and given the similarity between the buildings of these settlers in different locations, it can be said that the "Castro culture" had developed in this region from the Portuguese Minho to Spanish Galicia and Asturias, reaching its peak in the second century BC. One of the most important examples of this culture is the archaeological site of Caetania de Preteros, and the fact that it is located on hilltops reflects the ability of the inhabitants to better defend themselves from intruders and monitor the movements of strangers.
