Selimiye Mosque

Selimiye Mosque, historically known as Saint Sophia Cathedral, is a former Roman Catholic cathedral converted into a mosque, located in North Nicosia in the Old Town district. This is the main mosque of the city, and this Selimiye Mosque is housed in the largest and oldest surviving Gothic church in Cyprus (internal dimensions: 66 x 21 m) In total, the mosque has the capacity to accommodate 2,500 worshipers with 1,750 square meters available for worship. making it the largest historical building in Nicosia.
